Widow loses her job after taking time off to try to recover kidnapped daughter.

NAIROBI, Kenya, February 22 (CDN) — A Christian widow in north Sudan is agonizing over the kidnapping of her daughter eight months ago by suspected Islamic extremists in Khartoum.

“Since my daughter was kidnapped, I have been living in a state of fear and terror,” said Ikhlas Anglo, 35, a mother of two daughters.

She said her 15-year-old daughter, Hiba Abdelfadil Anglo, went missing while returning from the Ministry of Education in Khartoum on June 27, 2010. Hiba, a member of Sudan Presbyterian Evangelical Church in Khartoum, had gone to the education ministry office to obtain her transcripts for entry to secondary school.

Two days later, the family received threatening telephone calls and SMS messages from the kidnappers telling them to pay 1,500 Sudanese pounds (US$560) in order to secure her return.

“Don’t you want to have this slave back?” one of the kidnappers told Anglo from an unknown location by cell phone, she said.

Anglo and others said they believe the kidnappers are Muslim extremists who have targeted them because they are Christians, and that police are aiding the criminals. She said that when she went to a police station to open a case, police bluntly told her she must first leave Christianity for Islam.

“You must convert to Islam if you want your daughter back,” officer Fakhr El-Dean Mustafa of the Family and Child Protection Unit told Anglo, she said. Recently transferred to another station, Mustafa was not immediately available for comment.

A relative of the girl said police are fully involved in the crime, as officers had traced the phone number of the kidnappers but were reluctant to admit that to the girl’s family.

‘‘The police have a direct link with the kidnappers,’’ the relative said.

Adding to the anguish of the kidnapped girl’s family was Anglo’s dismissal from her job when she took time off to search for Hiba. Anglo said her supervisor at Asia Health Center, where she had worked for many years as a cleaner, had told her to report back to work after recovering her daughter, but after a month she was surprised to learn that she had been fired as of July 1, 2010.

“They dismissed me because I was looking for my daughter, although they have given me permission,” she said.

Christians in north Sudan are anticipating increased persecution due to a referendum that gave the right of self-determination to the people of south Sudan, the majority of whom are Christians. On Jan. 9, south Sudan voted for secession in order to establish a zone free of sharia (Islamic law). Northern Christians fear further dangers after July 9, when south Sudan will officially become an independent nation.

President Omar al-Bashir, wanted by the International Criminal Court for crimes against humanity in Darfur, has stated that the rights of southern citizens remaining in the north after secession will be respected. But Christians’ fears grew after he said in December that an altered constitution would be based on sharia and that Islam would be the official religion.

Nearly four months ago, police allegedly helped a Muslim businessman to seize property belonging to the Sudan Presbyterian Evangelical Church in Khartoum (See www.compassdirect.org, “Police in Sudan Aid Muslim’s Effort to Take Over Church Plot,” Oct. 25, 2010).

I Got to Stay!

So remember how I thought I was going to have to leave Kuwait? Well I got the job & have stayed put. The new company has taken over. They created a MESS! Completely unorganized & unprofessional. They cut our hours, took away our overtime, are only giving us 1 day off per week, and refuse to compensate us for travel time. It's a 3.5hr commute round trip & the previous company paid us for travel time. The new company decided to modify the shifts from 2 (day/night) to 3 shifts, 8 hrs a day yet they have not hired sufficient people. I work nights & a downside to my shift is that I am no longer able to assist in leading worship at the chapel bc their service begins at 1900 & I don't start until 2200. No one is happy with this company, especially their client. GOOD! Hopefully a new one will come in to fix their mistakes. But as of now, I'm wading in the water.

On the upside, I get more sleep now that my hours went from 13 to 8 in a day. I start work at 2200 & get off at 0700. I actually get to go out during the day & still get decent sleep! The other good thing was that I got into a bigger, better, more convenient apartment & got the master bedroom. The fact that my boyfriend lives in the same building a few floors away is also a definite PLUS. There's a grocery store, the bank I use, restaurants, & the salon I go to for eyebrow threading- across the street or nearby. Much better than the last place I was at.

One more cool thing about my apartment- I get a FULL WIFI signal from someone's router so I get FREE internet in my living room! WOOHOO! I no longer have to tether from my iPhone.

As for traveling plans.....I have no idea. My BF & I don't have the same days off anymore & we only get 1 day off a week. This has disabled our ability to take weekend trips without having to use any of our vacation time. Now we are going to HAVE to use vacation time even for a weekend trip somewhere. So THAT is definitely a NEGATIVE. This company is also making some people in different departments work 12 hour shifts 6 days a week! This wouldn't be an issue if the employees LIVED at the location of their jobs, but they don't. They live in the city.

On a different note, Kuwait is showing a lot of patriotism lately. They are celebrating 3 anniversaries. Kuwait is about to celebrate the 50th anniversary of their Independence, the 20th anniversary of Kuwait’s liberation by US-led Coalition-forces from the Iraqi Invaders, and the 5th anniversary of the ascendance of HH the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al- Jaber Al-Sabah, to whom we owe deep gratitude for his long-standing and steadfast support of the US-Kuwait relationship. It is a wonderful occasion to commemorate these three important anniversaries and I wish all Kuwaitis joyous celebrations.

There are homes, buildings, cars- all decked out with flags, banners, lights at night (looks like Christmas b/c the colors are red, white, & green). Stores are filled with t-shirts with Kuwait slogans of patriotism, streamers, carnival hats & masks in their country's colors, neck ties....you name it they got it. All in the spirit of celebrating being Kuwaiti. Of course that leaves THE MAJORITY of the residents of Kuwait EXCLUDED, since there are more foreign nationals living in Kuwait than Kuwaitis themselves. Nonetheless, I'm happy, excited, and thankful that I get to be in Kuwait at such a historical time for this country. I bought an "I Love Kuwait" blouse myself lol.

What an Opportune Time!

So North Africa & the Middle East are going crazy right now. People want Democracy or at least be treated as humans & fulfill basic necessities that governments & regimes limit, deny, or use as leverage.

The West, especially Chriatians, are freaking out about the Muslim Brotherhood taking over. Meanwhile protesters swear they march for liberties & not necessarily for stricter Islamic laws.

Is it coincidence that all this is taking place in the famous 10/40 window? If you don't know about the 10/40 window go here: www.1040window.org/what_is.htm

A Pastor recently said regarding Eschatology, that Islam will be practically eradicated & suffer a big blow that will create room for the Anti-Christ to win favor with the Jews to deceive them. Bc after all, he says, there can't be two competing forces with a prophet claiming to be the Messiah. Both Muslims & Jews believe in a coming Messiah. Whether or not this is true I don't know- we have to wait & see.

But the Islamic world is surely being shaken. Western thought is sneaking in by
Young adults who see prosperity from afar & suffer oppression at home. They spread their campaigns & executed successfully protests through FACEBOOK & TWITTER!

Anyway, what's happening in this region, I believe, is God taking a heart of stone & turning it into a heart of flesh.

What an opportune time for the Gospel to flourish. Although there are still dangers, I believe people's hearts will be more receptive to at least tolerate differences for the sake of unity to achieve their goals, which will lead to questioning, which will lead to understanding, which leads to
Inward examination & questioning of their own faith, which leads to a search for TRUTH, which then leads them to THE WAY, THE TRUTH, & THE LIFE, bc as God says, he who seeks me WILL find me when they search for me with all their heart. He who seeks will find, he who knocks- the door will be opened to him.

I am SURE of this bc God is willing that NO ONE should perish, bc he is patient & longsufgering, so that all will come to repentance & have eternal life.

So the way I see it, this is all so exciting! It
Has been difficult to get the gospel here. Now God is breaking ground. The harvest IS plenty!

Lord here I am in this field where the harvest is plenty. I am willing to be a laborer if you will! Send me God... I'm here & I'm willing!
